Best Children’s and YA Book of the Year goes to Flip, Flop, Flapjack!

The BPAA [Book Publishers of Alberta] held their annual publishing awards night on September 24th, 2024. We were all delighted to learn that Flip, Flop, Flapjack won the award for “Children’s & Young Adult Book of the Year”. Melissa, our illustrator, attended the award ceremony (I was busy scrubbing floors at a hostel in Spain) and accepted the award on behalf of my publisher, Ayesha Clough and Red Barn Books. Thank you, BPAA and thank you, Red Barn Books, for creating such a beautiful book. YAHOO!

GRADE 2 STUDENTS STEAL THE SHOW!

GLOBAL TV journalist Gil Tucker and crew taped my reading of FLIP, FLOP, FLAPJACK! to the Grade 2 class at Calgary Classical Academy. That interview was telecast tonight (May 15) on Global TV’s Calgary News at 6 p.m. While the picture book was the star of the show, I think the students really stole the show with their cowboy hats and bandannas! Congratulations to Miss Walker’s Grade 2 Class! Wildhorse Jack and I think you are awesome.

I’m happy to announce that RED BARN BOOKS is publishing my picture book, FLIP, FLOP, FLAPJACK! It’s the true story of the original Calgary Stampede Pancake Breakfast, started back in 1923 by WILDHORSE JACK (my grandfather).

FLIP, FLOP, FLAPJACK! will be published in 2023, and will be illustrated by Hugh Rookwood**. See all of the beautiful books by Red Barn Books, at their website – http://www.redbarnbooks.ca. **Illustration will be by Melissa Brugelmans-LaBelle.
